How Coolstead handles thermal readings, process activity, preferences, diagnostics, updates, and website requests.
App data stays on your Mac
Temperature readings, fan speeds, thermal pressure, and estimated app heat activity are processed locally. Coolstead does not operate an account system, advertising service, or usage-analytics backend.
Storage is limited
Settings are stored in your macOS user preferences. Temperature, fan, process, and Heat Insight histories are kept only for the current app session. A CSV or diagnostic report leaves the app only when you explicitly export or copy it.
Update checks are optional
Direct-download installations can contact Coolstead’s signed update feed when you check manually or enable automatic checks. Sparkle system-profile reporting is disabled. Homebrew installations use Homebrew’s update process instead.
Website requests
This site adds no analytics cookies or advertising trackers. It is delivered through Cloudflare and loads fonts from Google Fonts, so those providers receive ordinary request information such as an IP address, browser details, and requested resources.
You remain in control
You can use monitoring without approving the privileged helper, disable update checks, clear the app’s preferences by removing its macOS settings, and review a diagnostic report before sharing it. Avoid posting diagnostics publicly when they contain a device name, file path, process name, or other information you consider sensitive.
Questions or suspected privacy and security problems can be reported through the private contact options on the developer’s GitHub profile.
